I build the platforms other teams build on. Twenty-plus years, one recurring problem: take something only specialists can do and make it a primitive an ordinary team adopts in an afternoon. Compilers and domain-specific languages early on, hospital real-time location systems, a talent-management PaaS, and for the past several years AI and real-time media platforms at Amazon. I'm a Principal Engineer in Alexa's communications organization, owning platform architecture and multi-year technical direction for an org of 150+ engineers across a dozen teams and 100+ services. I architected Alexa's real-time visual intelligence platform for smart eyewear and multimodal devices (patent pending, first-named inventor), rebuilt Amazon's real-time media platform into a Python-first SDK and runtime, led communications architecture through the Alexa+ launch, and led the architecture for running third-party native calling clients on memory-constrained devices across three operating systems. I take technical strategy to Alexa VPs and the Amazon Devices SVP, and I found and chair the cross-org engineering working groups where the hard calls get made. I've built organizations as well as systems. As employee #9 at a digital-transformation startup I grew engineering from nothing to 25+ engineers, owned the budget, and reported strategy to the CEO and board. What I believe: trust should be structural, not a policy note. One-way doors should be rare and visible. Developer experience is architecture. And write enough code to stay honest about what you propose. Outside work I host Kalam Falsfa, an Arabic-language philosophy podcast, and co-host Ask Developer for developers across the Middle East.
